Education should not depend on what a family can afford to own. In some of the communities Colours Foundation works with overseas, students lack something many of us take for granted: a laptop. Without one, research, homework, and online courses become almost impossible. Swiftly, KGS's in-house refurbishment brand, partnered with Colours Foundation to change that.
Colours Foundation works directly with youth in overseas communities who face real barriers to opportunity. Together with Swiftly, laptops refurbished through KGS's IT asset recycling process were placed directly into the hands of the young people who needed them most.
The intent behind it matters. This was less about a one-time gesture of goodwill, and more about giving students something they could actually build with. Once a student has a working laptop and a reliable connection, doors open that were previously shut: independent study outside school hours, new skills picked up online, and a shot at opportunities that used to be out of reach simply because the right equipment wasn't there.
A laptop that would otherwise sit unused, or end up as e-waste, gets a second life as a tool for education. That is the idea behind refurbishment: devices collected through KGS's recycling process do not simply get broken down for parts if they can still serve a purpose. Some are restored and redirected to where they can do the most good.
This partnership reflects a simple belief: when young people are given the right tools, they can shape their own futures. It is about access, about dignity, and about bringing education a little closer to the students who need it.
KGS sees this as one part of a broader commitment to using its facility, expertise, and recovered devices for impact beyond the businesses that recycle with us. As Swiftly continues to refurbish devices, more partnerships like this are on the horizon, unlocking potential and creating real impact, starting with the world right in front of us.
If your organisation works with youth or underserved communities and could use refurbished devices, KGS and Swiftly welcome the conversation.
